I don't think that makes any difference as my sister doesn't have her's set to classic.
Maybe the pop up blocker thingy is causing this problem for you that is if you have it turned on? You should be able to either do the alt T up arrow to read mail and send it that way through internet explorer is where this is done.. or, while on a web page press alt F and go to send to enter on it and then it basically says the same thing either by page or link which this opens your email lands you in the To field... or, try the Alt D, control C on any link on any web page this copies the link to the windows clipboard and then you open your email and paste it control V in your email message area and send as usual...
