Larry, I've had something similar if I have formatted the columns so that the importance column is set to text; the word Normal tries to appear in the column that had previously contained the importance icon, but the column isn't very wide so you end up with N... or some other shortened version.
Have you either changed to a different view or formatted the columns in your currently view recently?
