Chris, That's a good question, which I've also asked. On one hand I think you can feel quite confident that, perhaps before the end of the six-month period, there will be some update available to the ILM licence holders, on foot of their purchase of JAWS9 or renewal of SMA within the 'grace period or shortly after, which would probably necessitate a new download (of the upgrade version) of the demo, anyway (and may also mean that owners must update?), whatever the outcome of the present first release of the full and demo versions of JAWS9 be. At the end of Eric's message, however, he does recommend that those not qualified for the full JAWS9 change to the demo either on Monday or before 1 December; so perhaps there's something in both of the downloads that recognises what-for.
