To be honest I have had loads of problems subscribing to these freelist lists as well and for me at least even if I get a positive response it is pot luck if I actually get posts. I don't know if it is a feature of being in the UK which impedes traffic.
None of these problems have ever occurred with this Jaws User and the blind computing list and clearly the infrastructure is superior so personally I have decided to stick with these list to avoid frustrations.
