Just to cover the obvious - make sure that Jaws screen echo is set to read highlighted. You can toggle through these settings by pressing insert + S. The options are none, all and highlighted. If your screen echo is set to none, the menus will not be read.
Other things to try Set verbosity to beginner -I had a problem with menu reading once and adjusting screen echo did not help. For some reason going back to beginner verbosity solved the problem. I have stayed on this ever since. Apart from that I would restore default settings by repairing and or reinstalling. There is a way of restoring defaults without running a repair but I cannot remember the process. I think it involves retrieving a file and renaming this as default.jcf. Someone from Sight and sound Tech did this on my Jaws setup once and solved a problem. Someone else on the list may know how to do this. I've got a student who recently put JAWS 9 (9.0.519 to be exact) on his new laptop which is running XP Home and when he's using MS Word '03, JAWS fails to read the menu bar items and the submenu items. Can anyone tell me how to correct this. Like I said I know it was discussed earlier, so I apologize for reposting.
