Where would I get the lame.enc, from?

Select File menu, then arrow down to "Batch Processing" A dialog box opens. Select the Add Files button. You can pull files from numerous directories. Once you've selected the files you want to convert (and they can be from numerous formats), you tab down to ...Save files as..." and select mp3 (or whatever file type you want). Tab again to get to "attributes" and arrow up or down through the various bitrates and whether you want the files saved as stereo or monaural. The converted files are saved in the same directories from whence they came, although I believe that you can specify a "save" directory in the Options menu. The only slightly inconvenient thing with Gold Wave is that the encoder is not included with the software. You need to download lame.enc, widely available for free download from the Internet and unzip it into your Gold Wave parent directory. Once this is done however, the conversion to mp3 is very easy. Gold Wave is "crippleware," but I really hate that term. The software is fully functional for a generous number of "processes," and batch conversion is considered a single process (i.e. each file in the batch is not considered a separate process). At under forty dollars, I think it's a good deal. Furthermore, Gold Wave does much more than convert files. It is a complete audio file editing package, which permits recording and manipulation of sounds. If all you're trying to do is to convert between file formats, it may be more than you want or need.
