Vicki, When I type cmd in the run dialog box, I get the following in a new window...
C:\WINNT\system32\cmd.exe Microsoft Windows 2000 [Version 5.00.2195] (C) Copyright 1985-2000 Microsoft Corp. C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator> Then I type the following at that prompt cd\ and press enter. The resulting prompt is C:\> You don't say what it is that you want to type at the DOS prompt so I am not clear why you want to retreat to the root directory. I am not even sure that is what you are wanting to do... On the other hand, if you are just wanting to eliminate the copyright info at the top of the window, at the DOS prompt you can type cls and then press enter.
