Hi,

If you copied script files or merged settings from a previous version of
Jaws, this is one reason why you are getting the message you are getting.
The script files have been updated in Jaws version 9 and people who have
copied script files or merged settings from a previous version will get this
error. Have you made any changes to the WordPad or default script files and
placed them in your personalized settings folder? If you have, this may be
the cause of your problem.
To check this out and verify this is your problem, do the following:

1. Go to the start menu, select all programs and find the shortcut for Jaws
9. Select the explore Jaws menu item, then select the explore my settings
menu option.

2. This will open a Windows Explorer window in your personalized settings
folder. Go through the list of files and see if there are any files there
that start with "default" or "WordPad".

3. If there are any WordPad files there, first delete all of the WordPad
files from your personalized settings folder.

4. Shut down Jaws and start Jaws again. Start WordPad and see if your
problem is corrected.

5. If this does not correct your problem or if you did not find any WordPad
files, next delete all of the files named "default". Shut down Jaws and
start Jaws again.

Hopefully, this will correct the problems you were having. As a final note,
to do a repair of Jaws 9, you must insert the Jaws 9 CD in your CD drive or
run the installation file you downloaded from the Freedom Scientific web
site. When you do this, the installation program will detect that Jaws 9 is
already installed on your system and ask you if you want to modify, repair
or remove the installation of Jaws.

Ryan

Subject: [JAWS-Users] jfw9 and Wordpad

Sorry about the poor subject line, I had sent a query about this problem
earlier and had no response, thus the "let's try it again" subject.
My humblest apologies.

Anyhooooooo, someone suggested I try running jfw as default.
I did, and you were right!! It did what it was supposed to do.
My best guess is that something fouled up when i merged from version 8.
Can someone suggest what I can do about that?
Thanks for your help sofar.
