Greetings Ryan,

I had a similar problem with Jaws 9 in Vista both in Excel and PowerPoint.
In my case, I couldn't even read the screen in either application when
moving away from the application and coming back. Interestingly, the problem
persisted when I installed Jaws 9.0552 on three different machines from
different manufacturers with varying components. These included my HP work
station and Samsung laptop running Vista Business and Home premium
respectively and my secretary's Acer laptop running Vista Home Premium. So,
I can safely assume it is certainly a Jaws related issue

Here is what I did to resolve this problem:

1. Go to the control panel and select the final option "display settings"
under Personalisation.
2. Press space bar to open display settings.
3. Change the screen resolution to "1024 - 768 picsels".
4. Change the colour settings from 32bit highest to 16bit medium it will ask
you if you wish to change your display settings, select yes) 5. restart your
machine and see if this resolves the issue for you 6. If yes, you may like
to stick with your new display settings. Although, in my case when I put the
colour settings back to "32bit highest" the problem doesn't seem to recur -
don't ask why as I have given up reasoning with Jaws 9 and Vista (grin)

Hope this helps!

Many Thanks

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Problems using Microsoft Excel with Jaws

Hi,

I am using Jaws version 9 with Microsoft Excel 2002 and I am encountering a
strange problem when opening Excel worksheets.

When I open a file either through Windows Explorer or from the open dialog
within Excel, I have the following problem.

I hear two Windows bong sounds, and then I hear Jaws say Microsoft Excel,
initialization dialog, gathering required information, OK button.

If I press the say word or say line command, nothing happens. If I press the
spacebar to accept the OK button, nothing happens. I cannot move around the
worksheet using the arrow keys or any other keys.

If I alt Tab to another window and then move back to the Excel worksheet,
everything reads fine and I can move around the worksheet normally.

Does anyone have an idea about what may be causing this behavior and what I
might need to do to correct it?

Thanks,

Ryan
