Carlene,

These sound like Flash messages.  If you want to turn these off for all 
applications, first go to the Jaws window.  In any case, then go to the 
configuration manager by hitting Jaws Key+6 on the number row.  Type Alt-S 
to set options.  Then type B for Braille Options.  Tab until you hear the 
"Flash Messages button.  Click that button, and tab until you hear "Enable 
Flash Messages".  Uncheck the box, and then click OK out of the dialog, and 
then Alt-F4 out of configuration manager.
