OK, read below. The Control and ALT keys, your best friend, part one. This is a text tutorial, provided freely by The W-10 and Jaws group. Author: Jim Flusche
Lets look at some general Control, keystrokes first in W-10, many of these keystrokes may work in prior versions of Windows as well. **Press Ctrl + Esc to Open Start Pressing the Windows key by itself will also open and close Start. Pressing Enter on the Start button, will also open Start. *Tip: The Start button area has also changed, in the Anniversary update for W-10. **After pressing the Windows key or pressing enter on the Start button, or pressing Control+Escape. 1. You will land in the Start area search edit box. Just begin typing what you are looking for, use the Arrow keys to find it, press enter to open it. 2. From the Search edit box, Tab one time to, the Navigation menu list box. Here you will find your Account picture, your folder shortcuts, like Downloads, Documents, and your personal folder, if you have set them up under Start in the settings area, and the Power Button. 3. Tab a second time to, Apps View list box. This is a list of all the Apps and Programs on your computer. Press Enter on any collapsed folders, to expand that folders content. First letter navigation works, Tip: you must have an app or program starting with that letter installed on your computer. *Tip: After pressing the Windows key, press either Up or Down Arrow to go directly to the Apps View list box. 4. Tab a third time from the Search edit box to, Pinned View list box. Here you have the Group Headers, plus any Pinned items you have Pinned to Start which are located under one of these Group Headers. *Now the Start button area is subject to change in the next major update to W-10. **Pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc will directly Open Task Manager in W-10. **You also can press, Windows key+X, for the W10 context menu, Uparrow to Task Manager, press Enter. **You can also press, Control+ALT+Delete, this will open a list of seven items including. 1. Switch users. 2. Task Manager. 3. Shutdown. 4. Lock. 5. Network status. 6. Ease of access. 7. Sign out. They are not in the above order. So for example: If you need to see what your wireless, signal strength is currently, do the following. 1. Press Control+ALT+Delete. 2. Uparrow to Network status. 3. You will hear the name of your Network provider, followed by the signal strenth of your wireless signal. **Press Control+Alt+Tab together, Use the Rightarrow key to switch between all open apps *After pressin Control+ALT+Tab, then release the keys, press the Rightarrow key, to go across all the open windows, press enter to bring that window into focus. **In W-10, you can also press Windows key+Tab, Rightarrow across all open Windows, press Enter on the window to bring it into focus. **You can also press Insert+F10, press Rightarrow to the Window, press Enter to bring it into focus. **Press Ctrl + Shift + N to Create a new folder. So from any file explorer list of folders, just press Control+Shift+N, type the name for the new folder, press Enter. **Press Control+F, Will Open find window for the current document or window. **Press Control+Insert+F, Opens the Jaws find dialog edit box. Type the word you are looking for, press enter to find that word. Press F3 or Insert+F3, to find the next occurrence of the word, depending on the program you are using. **Using Outlook 2016. **Pressing the ALT key, will open or close the Virtual ribbons in Outlook 2016. **Pressing the ALT key, will land you on the Home ribbon of the virtual ribbons menu, in Outlook 2016. >From the Home ribbon, Rightarrow across to the other top ribbons. For example, as you Rightarrow from the Home ribbon, you will hear. Send/recieve tab. Folder tab. View tab. Tell me what you want to do, edit box window, pressing Escape will close this edit box window. *For example, using the new, Tell me what you want to do feature, just type the word new, press the Downarrow key to see the list of results. Press Enter, on one of the items to automatically have Outlook 2016, complete that Task for you. *Tip, pressing ALT+Q, will bring up the Tell me search edit box. *On any of the virtual ribbon upper ribbon tabs, tabs, Home tab, Send and recieve tab, View tab, or file tab, just press the Downarrow key to open the lower ribbon of that main upper tab. *For example, pressing ALT, pressing Downarrow from the Home tab, you will see. 1. New sub menu. 2. Delete sub menu. 3. Respond sub menu. 4. Quick steps sub menu. 5. Move sub menu. 6. Tags sub menu. 7. Find sub menu. *Now pressing the Leftarrow key from any of the lower ribbons, will take you back to the upper ribbon tab. *Different things you may find, in the sub menus of the lower ribbon tabs. 1. Button item has pop-up, press Spacebar to open this list, press Enter on an item, or press Escape to close. 2. Split button, has pop-up, press Spacebar, press Enter on an item, or press Escape to close. 3. Arrange by Split button has pop-up, press Spacebar, press Enter on an item, or press Escape to close. 4. Show in Favorites button, this will show, this selected email account inbox, in the Favorites list at the top of your email folder list. 5. Move button dropdown, the selected email will be moved after pressing Enter, use the Arrow keys to find a folder, press Enter to move. *Tip, its faster pressing Control+Shift+V, on the selected email, use the Arrow keys to find the folder, press Enter to move that email to that selected folder. 6. After pressing Enter on a certain button item pop-up, you will need to press Enter to check a certain item, if items can be checked under that item pop-up. *For example. Press ALT+V, for the view menu, Downarrow to the Layout sub menu. Rightarrow to folder pain button drop down has pop-up, press the Spacebar. On my computer, I have Normal checked, and Favorites checked. I did this by pressing Enter on Normal, and repeated the above steps to return to the ribbons, and pressed Enter on Favorites. **Press ALT+F, followed by the letter T, to go to Outlook options. Use your Uparrow/Downarrow keys, to select a category, press the Tab key, to go across the options in each category. **Using Smart lookup. This is a cool new feature,read below For an example of how to use Smart lookup. 1. I highlighted the word, "bible", in an open email. 2. I pressed the Applications key. 3. I pressed Uparrow to, Smart lookup, I pressed Enter, I heard a sound. 4. I was placed in a Smart lookup, result window. 5. I ignored the message saying, press Insert+ALT+M, for Controled elements, I pressed the Tab key instead. 6. I began Down arrowing through the results page. 7. I selected and copied the following text: "The Bible is a collection of sacred texts or scriptures that Jews and Christians consider to be a product of divine inspiration. and a record of the relationship between God and humans". . 8. When you are done with the Smart lookup window, press the ALT key, then press the ALT key a second time. 9. This places you right back into the same email, with the word you looked up using Smart lookup. 10. You can also press ALT+Tab, Tab away and Tab back, to close the results window for Smart lookup. *There may be other ways, to close the Smart lookup window, the above ways, worked fine for me. **To add a new contact in Outlook 2016. 1. Press Control+Shift+C, to create a new contact. 2. Type the new contact's name, Tab to the email edit box, type the email address. 3. Now just Press the Escape key, and a message will come up, asking you if you want to save, Press Enter on the yes button, and you are finished. **Press Control+Shift+B, to open the Address book contact search edit box. After Pressing the Control+Shift+B, to open the address book. 1. Now press alt+F, then press Enter on New Entry. 2. Now press Enter on New Contact. 3. You will now be in the new contact edit field, type the name for your new contact. 4. Now just Tab across to the email edit field, type the email address for the new contact. 5. Now just Press the Escape key, and a message will come up, asking you if you want to save, Press Enter on the yes button, and you are finished. **press Shift+F1, brings up the Support page for Outlook 2016, just begin down arrowing to read the information. **Press Insert+F8, for Outlook Global ToolBar Items dialog. First letter navigation, works in the below list of items, press Enter to complete the task for the selected item. 1. Address Book 2. Advanced Find 3. Appointment Create 4. Contact Create 5.
