Windows+B, takes you to the Notification chevron button, not ALT+B. Smiles.

There's a few ways to fix this.

Regarding your hidden desktop, if you press alt+B, this is a Windows shortcut
to take you to the system tray where you find the time and all the programs
running on your computer in the background.

Tabbing once from this point will take you to a button.

Not sure what it'll say for you, but mine says "Show Desktop" and pressing
enter on this button takes me directly to the desktop.

I'm also curious as to what happens when you press the Windows hotkey of
Windows+the letter M, or Windows+the letter D. Both of these keystrokes
should take you to the desktop.

Regarding your sideways desktop or view, as you heard from someone else,
there's a shortcut key which is control+the arrow keys to rotate your
screen, but you can also do this by going to your desktop and de-selecting
anything that is currently highlighted by pressing control+spacebar.

Once you've done this, you can press your applications key or shift+F10, and
arrow down to "Display settings" and press enter.

In the resulting dialog box, tab to the combo box that says "Orientation"
and press alt+down arrow to open the choices, then arrow up to Landscape or
Portrait, depending on your preference. Tab to the apply button and press
enter.

Once you're done, just alt+F4 out of that window.

Previous editions of Windows used to have the rotation option right in the
first context menu, so you could make the changes that way, but alas,
Windows has done away with this option.

Hope this helps.
