Hi Folks, I posted this some time ago, not sure if this was seen by list-members.
I am looking to liaise with members on this list that may be using VLC Media player, which is now quite popular, perhaps more so than Windows Media Player. We know that with the QT interface VLC is somewhat accessible but things like access to the screen-draw with Jaws cursor is completely not available to Jaws. This means in some cases you can access a control via keyboard shortcuts and make changes, but not see the value of those changes. In my experience for example, Control up and down arrows (using the pass through first) will change the volume, but if you want to specifically set it to 0 DB and not go above that, then you’re out of luck. Anybody knows of a work-around for these problems? I’m particularly interested in activating the Dynamic Range Compressor so that my family can watch movies at a constant level despite the fluctuating dynamics of today’s videos. Anybody has any tips on how we can do this and have access to the controls of the compressor such as threshold, ratio, attack, release Etc? I’m an audio engineer so I know the functions of these controls so no need to explain those; I just need to know if any of you have managed to find accessibility tips that could make using these possible in VLC. Would also be nice if using the equalizer in VLC has some accessibility tips someone could offer. Thanks Guys. I’m using Jaws 14.0 and also 17.0 on Windows 7 32-bit SP1, if this helps at all. Any Jaws scripts, HSC sets, or just good old advice, anything at all would be appreciated.
