I agree: this very much depends on what you need to do with it, and your portability requirements (the 14 is obviously more portable, but you would have to press panning buttons much more frequently to read long documents, for example, and there's less text available at any given moment due to the shorter line). Both of the braille displays that I have bought have had 40-cell lines. I read and edit relatively complex documents frequently. I'm usually working at a desk, so extra portability isn't necessary.
