Like two antivirus softwares, as any other screen reader, JAWS and Narrator can't be run together, unless you configure JAWS into Sleep Mode in the JCF for the chat application. Specifically, is the chat application Microsoft Skype for Business or Lync? If so, Dough Lee, which is the author of the well known JAWS scripts for Skype better than the ones built into JAWS, made scripts for SFB/Lync too, which you'll have interest to test.
