one thing. if you had to re install or upgrade jaws the shortcut key in the desktop will be replaced and that shortcut would also be erased and you would have to re create it again.; open a context menu on the jaws 18 icon. click on properties then tab to the shortcut edit box. if it is blank no shortcut has been defined. or maybe the person that set it up used other keys.
if it is blank press j and it will fill it in with control alt j.
tab to the o k button and save the changes. it might ask for your administrator password that you use to log on with before it will save it. if the keys are already there press the escape key to close the settings without saveing anything.

there are a few ways to shut down jaws
jaws windows f4 does not work without generating a error report most of the time.
shift windows f4 doesn't do anything.
if jaws has not crashed you can shut down with jaws f4 and press enter on the dialog. it defaults to the yes button. you can press jaws j to open a dialog and arrow up once to wrap to the exit button and press enter. if the desktop icon shortcut key is working you could press control alt j and it would open the same dialog screen and arrow up once to wrap to the exit button and press enter on it.

I had the person who helped me set all this up, set up a hot key for Jaws, I
thought, and that hot key doesn't work. But if insert, windows, F4, will do
the whole hob, then I would need the hot key?

the keys are jaws f4 to unload it.
you have to make sure there is a shortcut in the jaws 18.0 desktop icon
before you can reload jaws. the shortcut keys are not there by default after
jaws has been installed.
oepn a context menu on the icon, click properties and in the shortcut edit
box press j and it will be filled with control alt j by default. save the
change.
then you can reload jaws with these keys.
control alt j

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 18

Please tell me again, in detail, what to do when Jaws 18 disappears. I wrote
down to press Jaws key plus windows key plus F4 and this turns off Jaws. And
if I press these keys again, they act as a toggle. Am I supposed to press
them simultaneously? When I press them the first time, I can see with my
hugely magnified Magic that the screen changes. But I haven't gotten Jaws to
restart with those keys or with any others. I am having to resort to turning
the computer off with the button and then turning it on again. Even though I
can see that I've moved to the screen that says, "Shut Down", the key
strokes don't work. But, after I press the button, just before the screen
changes, Jaws says something, but then the computer shuts down. I have a 64
bit windows 7 computer. I'd sell my soul for a key stroke that would just
get Jaws working again without having to shut down the computer and wait for
it to start and load.
