Tom,

I know of two ways to get Outlook up in safe mode.

You can use the Windows run command and type:
outlook.exe /safe

Here is what you want to do to keep opening it in safe mode by creating a shortcut:

You can also create a new shortcut to outlook.exe and add the /safe switch;

First, determine the location of outlook.exe on your system. In general you'll find it under;

 a.. 32-bit version of Windows
 C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office <version number>
 b.. 64-bit version of Windows
 C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office <version number>
If you can't find it, do a search for outlook.exe or use OutlookTools (free) instead.

Once you've found outlook.exe we create a shortcut to it with the /safe switch to prevent Outlook from opening an extra window each time you click the shortcut or use your keyboard shortcut.

1.. Right click on an empty space on your Desktop and choose New-> Shortcut 2.. Type the path to outlook.exe between quotes or browse to its location via the Browse. button
 3.. Type a space behind that and /safe
4.. The entire line should now look like this (example is for a 32-bit version of Outlook 2010 on a 64-bit version of Windows);
 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\OUTLOOK.EXE" /safe
 5.. Click Next
 6.. Name your shortcut for instance: Outlook Safe Mode
 7.. Click Finish

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Additional Note Regarding Outlook Chrashing Issue When Entering E-mail Addresses Into A New E-mail

Hello, everyone.

Yesterday, you may recall that I was told by Freedom Scientific Tech Support
that the best way to solve the issue of Outlook Crashing when entering
addresses into the "to" field of a new e-mail message was to put Outlook in
safe mode.

This is continuing to work for me, although I must add that if you shut your computer down for any reason, you will have to go back into Outlook and put
it back into safe mode.

Apparently, the safe mode setting isn't saved, as I have just discovered.
