Cool. Glad that was the issue and that your files are safe and sound.

files & folders

Thank you so very much! ...... This solved the problem. I'm in the
beginning stages of learning how to navigate the ribbons in Word but I'm
quite determined to do this (smile) ......

Hi.

In the search box, when you type something in, try pressing the down arrow.
JAWS will then speak the name of a file or folder, if the computer finds
anything.

>From what you just described, your files are all still there, and not
missing. You could use the left and right arrow to see your files. They are
now longer being displayed in a vertical list, and it sounds like that's the
kind of layout you want.
You probably have a different view option set for your documents folder. In
file explorer, hit alt-v, for the view tab of the ribbon. Hit the tab key
until you hear "layout tool-bar". Hit enter on this and you will see a list
of view options. "details" should work. Now on the right side you will see
some columns with file properties, rather than more files, so your up and
down arrows will move vertically through the list.

Hope this makes sense.

When I pressed the windows key and then type in the name of a folder this
doesn't do anything and I can't get Jaws to read what I typed in the search
box. Also, when I'm in my documents I can press the first letter of a
folder or file that is missing and find it that way. All my folders and
files were listed in alphabetical order where I could just arrow down
through all of them; folders at the top in alphabetical order and then files
after that. Somehow that has gotten messed up. How can I get my folders
and files listed in my documents the way I had them before this happened?

Hi Laura.

Try using Windows 10 search to look for the files. Hit the windows key. The
search box should come up. You can type in a part of a filename here. Your
results will appear in a list and you should also see the path where the
files are stored.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Please help ...... Missing files & folders

Hello,

Using Windows 10, Jaws 18 & MS Word 2016 ..

I plugged in my headphone to my laptop. Jaws asked what type of headphone
and gave me a list of six to choose from; headphones, headphones with
microphone, headset, etc. I pressed enter on headphones and the headphones
worked. I opened a file, typed a few notes, and closed that file. I then
got on the internet and did a few Google searches. When I got off the
internet and went back to my documents I noticed Some of my folders and
files are missing. I checked the recycle bin and they are not there. I
also shut down the computer and turned it back on and they are still not
there.

I'm not very tech savvy and have no idea why this would happen .. Would
somebody please help?

Thank you,

Laura
