Isn't this feature kind of redundant when using a screen reader?
If the information is being spoken aloud, all it does is make the screen
blank. Granted, people would have a hard time getting the information if
speech is set to a fast speed, however, if someone really wants your
information, all they have to do is record it with a recorder, then slow it
down with audio software.
iBooks, for example, has this ability, so while I can appreciate VFO wanting
to give new features, this one seems kind of redundant to me.
Just offering a dissenting voice.

Also sensitive info like credit card numbers etc. thus why I want the
option.

Good point on that issue. If memory serves it says when you turn it on or
off, so I imagine the need for checking it manually is in order. Eric
monitors this list so he can do with all of this what he will.

I'm looking at it from the point you think it is on and it isn't again
it's an added option that I would like to see. Not saying your point is
wrong but we are human we could think it's on and not have it on and have
info we don't want people to see on screen. Example a gift for someone that
can see oh crap now they know what they are getting :)

Good point, but since it is invoked with a couple key strokes it shouldn't
be a large deal. I would imagine if say JAWS would happen to crash so that
the system would need to be rebooted then your screen would go back on. Now
that is probably worse case event.

I agree. I would like to see an option to have it carry across sessions if
the computer is rebooted or jaws is restarted have it ask if screen Curtin
was on if you want Screen Curtin on.

If your lap top already has such a feature then it is kind of redundant. How
ever if it does not or you forget the key command then it comes in to play.
For example this particular lap top I own might have that feature but I have
never been able to find a manual so for me it will be a good thing.

I'm not wanting to start a battle here, I'm just curious about something...
The below explination, couldn't we do this with our laptops already?
For example, I go to work daily and when I don't want anyone in the office
to know what I'm doing, I press fn f9 and the screen goes black.

Respected friend, you completely misunderstood.
Shade screen or shade curtain is a new brand feature of JAWS which will be
included in upcoming JAWS update.
It simply means just like dark screen it will come to protect your privacy!
Meaning that suppose you are sitting in a public place and using your laptop
and you don’t want your mail’s content will be seen by any sighted person,
you just press insirt+space bar and press print screen!
That’s called shade screen meaning that your screen will disappear!

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Hoykey for the new shade curtain
Hi Everyone,
ON the last FS Cast their was a new feature called shade curtain. I thought
they said the shortcut key was insert+ space bar then the print screen key
to turn shade curtain on and off. I tried this command on two computers
running the latest Jaws 2018 710.42 and did not get it to work.
Anyone having any luck turning on and off the shade curtain.
Mr. Ed
