Hi. In order to do this, you must be comfortable with using the Windows Registry editor. Before you go about doing this, you should verify that cortana is actually be used first. The reason I say this is that, for some reason I do not know, JAWS will sometimes say "cortana" when you hit the start button (windows key), even if Cortana is not in use. Also note that cortana still runs as a background process, normally, even if it is disabled in your registry. Microsoft really does not want you to not use it. They are getting pushy.
Anyway, follow the instructions on this page. https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/turn-cortana-windows-10 -----Original Message----- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Michele Thredgold Sent: December 20, 2017 9:02 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [JAWS-Users] Disabling Cortana or Any other Pragram I'm not Using Hi all. Can anyone tell me how to do this? I know Cortana is a search engine within Windows 10, but I want to simply search from the start menu tout it taking over. This morning, I was trying to do a search for fold options and Cortana kept taking me to the wrong thing. If you more advanced JAWS and Windows 10 users think it not prudent to disable Cortana, what's the best way to reach folder options? I'm having problems with the download manager Vision Australia's library uses and the representative believes that various files are hidden. He's advised me to go to folder options and uncheck the "hide files" option. Would appreciate any hints at this point since, after a morning of trying to work through the Windows keyboard commands and being interrupted by phone calls and visits from my parents and then the grocery delivery, I'm way behind and am expecting a call from the IT guy in about half an hour. Thanks. Cheers!
