Two answers, one a JAWS and the other a Microsoft method.
I don't know if this worked in JAWS 14, but with current versions:
To mark the beginning of the passage you want to select, press
control+Windows-key+k
Navigate to the place where you wish the selection to end.
Press JAWS key+spacebar, release and pause, then the letter m.
Then take the action you want to perform, such as pressing control+c for
copy.
If that option isn't available to you as a JAWS 14 user, here are the
non-JAWS instructions for performing this task. I got them from
http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-select-and-deselect-blocks-of-text-in-word-.html
1. Position the insertion pointer at the start of the block of text.
2. Press the F8 key.
The F8 key drops anchor and marks one end of the block.
3. Use the keyboard's cursor keys to select the block of text.
Press a letter key to select text up to and including that letter. If you
press N, you select all text up to and including the next N in your
document.
Word highlights text from the point where you dropped anchor with F8 to
wherever you move the insertion pointer.
4. Do something with the selected block of text.
Word remains in extended selection mode until you do something with the
block.
To cancel the extended selection, press the Esc key. That action ends
extended selection mode and keeps the block of text marked.
