Not necessarily related to this current query, but I recommend you download and install VLC player. It's ideal for all video formats out of the box, non-intrusive, and fairly accessible (the preferences dialog and some other issues exist in the default interface). It really works well though, and if you set it up properly it will open these files by default. The program is free, so no dangling or demands. https://www.videolan.org/vlc/
