I agree this is my arguement for having an option to speak passwords. Note the word Option. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rebecca Lineberger" <drlineber...@embarqmail.com>

The decision has been made, but just a final comment from someone who wrote
VFO about this several months ago ...
I can understand the potential problems of a spoken password in the
workplace, but for those using JAWS For Home Use, rather than the
professional version, I can see no security risk. Many of us who migrated
from Window-Eyes used this feature on our home computers for years without a
problem. There are several physiological conditions, such as arthritis or
neuropathy that could cause someone to have difficulty typing. In these
cases, as well as for anyone of us who might find typing one thing and
hearing another confusing, the person would benefit from hearing the
characters as they typed, especially in those situations where accuracy the first time really mattered. Smile. Certainly, copying and pasting is a way
around this, but in this case, not only is the password spoken, as it's
typed, but it is displayed on the screen, as it would not have been when in
a password edit field.

i don't see a big deal here. the stars are still there if you hear the keys
you press or not.
i only want the keys i press to be spoken like window eyes does so i don't
have to keep typeing my passwords in note pad and copying and pasteing them
into the password edit box every time.
the stars are not being replaced with the password i type in. it just speaks
the keys as i press them. nothing else.
i can not concentrate on the keys i press while it is saying the stars and
not the keys i press.
if you are working, turn the keys off. if not turn them on in settings.

While it may well be possible that we could add such an option that would
allow the true password being typed, it is also very likely that just adding
this option into our software, would cause security minded organizations
such as IRS, SSA, and many other 3 letter organizations, to block those
versions from being deployed. It is part of the reason we have a Non-Tandem
build of our software posted also on the web.

Sorry, but this ability to echo Passwords is risky from security standpoint
and we will not be adding that one.

Eric
