Do you mean that you want to put text into a cell and not a number value or formula? If this is the case, and you are working with Excel 2003, I do not think that you have to do anything special. Just start typing and Excel will do the work for you. It used to be in some earlier version, that you had to type a quote or apostrophe to indicate that you wanted the cell to contain text and not a number.
