Hi.

I'm not sure about Avast, and I haven't used cCleaner since Windows XP.
However, are you sure these are good solutions for your problem? There are
other thigns you can check. What is running at startup, for instance. You might
have some unwanted background processes running that are taking up memory and
processor time. These aren't necessarily malware or anything. Try running the
utility msconfig that comes with Windows, and examining the items there; see if
anything appears that you don't think should be running in the background. I
know that some of this will amount to guesswork for most people, but there are
resources on the web that can help you determine what a running process does
and if it really needs to be "on" all the time. You can also use the windows
task manager to take a look at what is running at any given time. There are
also a handful of useful utilities called the Windows Sysinternals suite. Most
of them are not really intended for everyday users, but a few of them, like
Process Explorer and Autoruns, can help you isolate these kinds of issues. I
personally would hesitate to put much faith in something like a registry
cleaning program. I have used them before and while there might have been a
minor speed increase, it doesn't really seem worth the potential headaches such
programs can cause.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] computer performance

Hello,

I have windows 8.1 and Jaws 156.

My computer is going very slow, and I tried to clean it up with Avast. When I
press the resolve button, I can only read ‘avast free antivirus dialog’. Does
some one know how to clean the computer with Avast?

I feel a bit unsecure to use Ccleaner; if I do, what boxes should I check,
without breaking anything down? any other safe and accessible cleaner you might
suggest?

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,

Teresa Arroyo Llosa
