I've just had an experience with this new mute control that makes me join
Fernando in criticizing the way it is set up now. While completing an online
form, I had a broadcast muted in another window. The form required me to
refresh the screen from time to time. Each time I pressed JAWS key+escape, the
broadcast came back on. It was an annoying distraction.

I respect your opinion, Maria, but unmuting as it was implemented seems me a
bad idea.
In addition to when starting JAWS (which is right), this is done every time you
press JAWS+ESCAPE to refresh the screen or virtual buffer. Freedom Scientific
says that this doesn't affect muting of the synthesizer with INSERT+SPACEBAR,
S, but what if you only use Braille and, even when you work with no speech or
have speech muted temporarily, you want to mute also other computer sounds? I
think it would be better if this would be a setting in the Basic Settings
dialog box and JAWS Startup Wizard instead of a mandatory action from witting
any call to the RefreshScreen script.
These imposed automatic adjustments makes me a bit angry, for example the fact
that I can't lower the JAWS volume in Volume Mixer less than 20% because it is
reset automatically to 100% when I try to continue down to 19, 18 or the value
I want.

To VFO, that unmute key combo may be the best thing since place markers.
Thanks.
