Good point, I would be cautious about doing this as well.
I Know that the different versions of JAWS go in to different folder names.

Because of the shared files, I'd be nervous about installing an earlier version 
than the one on your system. Also, FS/VFO made a substantial change to JAWS 
that I believe began with version 17. If I were you, I'd ask VFO tech support.
