Just in case others start a new Facebook account, I discovered that Facebook automatically blocks your adding friends via a request for awhile after the account is opened. You can accept requests, but cannot add friends or see posts. Seeing posts will last until you have 10 friends, but how long you are blocked from requesting friends is up to them. I'm still blocked.
