Hi, sorry, I don't know anything about configuring Avast to work with E-mail. Gmail is different in that it uses SSL technology for both its Pop/Imap and SMTP servers, and no antivirus will work with them without advanced configuration or third party programmes. Sorry I can't be of any more help.
