Hello Mark, In Vista, there is a checkbox for showing power status in the notification area.
1. Press Windows key and type in the word "taskbar" without the quotes. 2. Press enter on the "taskbar and start menu options" result. 3. Use CTRL-Tab to move to the "notification area" page tab of the dialog. 4. Use tab key to move to the "power" checkbox and press spacebar to check it. 5. Use tab key to the OK button and press enter. Removing the checkbox from the "hide inactive icons" does not include the power status. There is a checkbox specific for showing the power status in the same page of the taskbar and startup menu dialog. Take care.
