These programs are like the flavors at Baskin & Robins, a well known ice-cream
vendor in the U. S. Or, if you prefer, "different strokes for different
folks". Chris, you have a real issue with AVG at any time. I must point out
that the best way to get protection from any of these packages is to purchase
the paid for versions. To quote Will Rogers, "There ain't no such thing as a
free lunch!"
I believe that the manufacturers offer a free version of their products because
they just might encourage someone to buy a better product if they get
reasonable success from the free software. For those who can't afford the
cost, having some kind of free anti-virus protection is worlds better than
having none at all.

However, my concern is about how these versions work with Jaws. Apparently,
Freedom Scientific agrees and they are trying to deal with the conflict between
Jaws and AVG. Why would they do this? Well, for one thing, of all anti-virus
programs available here in the U. S. AVG is rated one of the best. It is also
the one purchased more frequently by computer users. Compared to Avast, AVG
outsells that program at about 25 to 1. Is it a better program in the free
version? Not necessarily. But when it comes to the professional edition,
there are very few programs out there that offer better compatibility and ease
of operation. That was true of AVG until this latest issue. Unfortunately,
AVG seems to have taken a page from the Norton book of dirty tricks and
inadvertently created something which doesn't function with Jaws very well at
all. That should be our primary concern here. I am reading conflicting
messages. Some say that with the new version of Jaws, AVG works fine. Others
say that it still is giving them problems. Before I do something I'm going to
regret, I need to know which is correct.

1. I have loaded the newest version of Jaws.
2. I have uninstalled AVG 7.5 but I have retained the .EXE file and my code
key.
3. If I load AVG 8 now, will it function correctly or will it crash as some
have indicated?

Chris has his opinion about AVG but I'm a bit concerned that he is trumpeting
his personal dislike for the software and ignoring the essential problem we are
having.
The fact is that at the best of times, AVAST is a pain in the neck. Some of
the functions have never been accessible. It might be a fine program but it
has never worked as well as the older versions of AVG where compatibility with
Jaws is concerned. That isn't opinion ladies and gentlemen, it's simple fact.
I am not criticizing AVAST in any way. It just doesn't work that well with
Jaws. That goes for older versions as well as the most current one.

As I said in the beginning, everyone has their preference. I want to find an
anti-virus program with excellent ratings which will work well with Jaws.
That's all people. I'm not interested in creating a fire fight between those
who like AVAST and those who prefer AVG. I just want to know. Don't you?
