Hi, are you behind a proxy server? For some reason programmes don't like being behind proxy servers unless they're bypassed in some way or you configure the programme correctly to connect to the proxy server. I know I have similar issues with my programmes, despite me using a programme to bypass the thing! I just get on with it and update my Avast and Super Antispyware manually. Windows Update, well, that's another thing for another topic.
