NVDA is a screen reader free for personal use. It stands for Non Visual Desktop Access I believe. It is useful for those occasions Jaws stops working and you want to read a Jaws error message . It also helps when diagnosing problems as if something's works fine under NVDA and not Jaws it points to an issue being Jaws rather than Windows related.
Obviously it does not have all the features of Jaws but for free it is very good I think- especially if you can use a reasonable voice with it.
