I am using OpenBook 7, and both Adobe 7.09 and 8.1. So far I'm too
chicken to install OpenBook 8 but it should work just fine.
1. Open the PDF document
2. Respond to the Adobe prompts such as "read up to down, "infer
reading order from document', and let Adobe do its thing.
3. If you get text, thank your lucky stars and save the document as a
text file.
4. If you get the message "Alert. Empty document"

a. Leaving the document open, activate OpenBook.
b. In Adobe, go to the file menu and press enter on print.
c. From the list of printers, select Freedom Import Printer and press enter.
d. If Openbook activates the scanner and reports 'blank page', do
the print a second time. Sometimes it gets befuddled.
e. OpenBook should perform OCR on the PDF document, reporting a page
at a time as it converts the image to text--"1 of 12", "2 of 12", etc.
f. When the OCR is finished, you can have yur way with the
document. It's very slick!
