As a particular list's messages I was interested in were not on display from the Web site, I downloaded and was eventually able to open a GZ file of that list's emails for a particular day, by hitting enter on it five times. Each time I opened it, another window opened. The file resolved itself into a text file, with all of the pertinent messages in it. I do have Winzip and WinRar on board, so perhaps one of them was involved in the eventual success (though I forget which program).
