I'm Sorry Stewart, but this is not possible. You see, Googlemail, or any provider that uses Googlemail, will not show you messages you've sent to the lists by default. This is to prevent spammers from faking e-mail headers to make you believe it comes from you. What you do by enabling recent mode is download any messages from Googlemail's all mail folder, hence you not only receiving your own copy of messages, but also receiving messages you've sent to the lists. There's just no way around it I'm afraid, unless you set up another e-mail account like Hotmail. I personally like recent mode, but to each their own I guess.
