Hey Tom and list... I followed your steps to the letter and it found no such files..
But I fixed the problem before I did those steps and not knowing I had fixed them I did your steps in regards to the search for normal.dot tip. I had been using Reg Scrub and found the folder in Programs for the backups of things it found and I reinstalled them from the list of 9 items for backups I had used from that program. All is back to normal or I should say, as it always has been even the alt-control-W is working... I think I shall uninstall the reg scrub program and leave that stuff alone..
