David,

The feature is called AutoFill; here's how to do it with the keyboard.

Assuming you have a date in cell A1 and want to enter consecutive dates
into A2 to A50.

Select cells A1 to A50. A quick way to do this is to press F5, type the
range A1:A50 and press Enter.

Open the edit menu and choose the Fill submenu, and from this choose
Series (Alt + E, I, S).

This opens a dialogue box with a number of controls which allow you to
specify the type of series you wish. For this example I want the series
to be based on what is in cell A1 so select the AutoFill option (Tab to
the Type Control + and select the AutoFill radio button, or use the
shortcut Alt + F).

Press Enter to close the dialogue box. The series will be completed; use
UpArrow to deselect and then DownArrow to check what has appeared. Cell
A50 should contain 19-Feb-01.

AutoFill is set to work with days of the week, months of the year, and
dates. It can also work with any numbers, but for these you will need to
fill in two cells, for instance A1 and A2, then select them both and
then press F5 to select the range you want the series to be put into,
for instance A1 to A50. This is necessary because otherwise Excel won't
know how to increase your sequence of numbers.

It is possible to add your own lists of words that will AutoFill. To
create such a list, open the Tools menu and choose Options. Move to the
Custom Lists page of the dialogue and Tab to the List Entries edit box.
Type in your list, with each entry on a new line, and then Tab to and
press the Add button.

If someone sends you a spreadsheet with a list typed into a number of
consecutive cells, one entry per cell, then you can add create a list
from these cells rather then typing it in. Note the first and last cell
of the list. Open the Tools menu, choose Options and move to the Custom
Lists page. Tab to the "Import list from cells" edit box and type the
cell range into it, then Tab to and press the Import button to create
your list. The list entries will appear in the List Entries area above.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Completing Dates in an Excel Range

        Dear List

There is a very useful Excel feature which I used to use when I relied
on
screen enhancements to see a monitor. This feature provides the
automatic
insertion of a consecutive list of data. Basically Excel will look at
the
data in 2 cells and you can then have it automatically insert the rest.

So for example you could put in 2 dates like October 1 and October 2 in
2
cells. Highlight these cells and then place your mouse cursor at the
bottom
right corner of the second cell. The mouse pointer would change shape
and
you could then drag across as many cells as you want and Excel would
fill in
October 3 , October 4 and so on automatically for you. This would work
for
any kind of data - numbers, time and even days of the week like Monday
Tuesday etc. . Basically Excel would look at the relationship between
the 2
cells you select and try to replicate this across a range.

This is a very useful and time saving feature However I can find no
equivalent keyboard sequence which could be used with Jaws to replicate
this
mouse operation. Does anybody know of a way of doing this?

Regards

David Griffith
