Hello Flor,

Yes, after much puzzlement, we uninstalled everything, and then manually
removed every remaining file and folder related to FS and the display. A
complete reinstall, after which I've discovered that the firewall is
blocking the Jaws scripts. Jaws works beautifully when I disable the
security program. LOL.

Do you have more than one version of JAWS on your computer? Remove every
JAWS version (including shared components) from your computer, and start
afresh. After having uninstalled one version, you could then (using windows
Explorer) go back into its folder - which remains in the program files
folder , and delete it from there. If you have another version of JAWS on
your computer, having uninstalled JAWS8 you could use it to do as above.
(Then uninstall the other version; and reinstall, start over.) (Or you
could download a demo version of another screen-reader, to help in the
process.) Or, you could get back to FS and tell them that your problem
was not resolved in your first call, etc.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] removing braille display

Okay, this one has me stumped. I've been having problems with strange error
messages using Jaws 8. That's a long story, but I have pretty much
determined it comes from corrupted files with the installation of the
PacMate braille display.

My problem is that no matter what I do, I can't seem to uninstall the
display and reinstall it. First, I tried going into the Jaws window, and
selecting no display under braille. But it still loads and is present. Then
I wanted to remove it and start fresh. I ran the Jaws CD and chose the
remove components and tried unsuccessfully to remove it. In the installer,
it showed no display and nothing else selected. However, the braille display
still loads and comes up working.

Since the installer can't remove the files, how can I remove it manually to
start fresh?

I should mention that in sorting out this problem, I did at one time
completely remove Jaws. It had become corrupted and I had to do a manual
uninstall with FS help because the installer couldn't run. But even when I
did that, I noticed that all the braille folders were left. They weren't
deleted. But now I know I need to clean up and start those from scratch.

Can anyone help with steps for a manual removal of a braille display?

Jean
