This sounds like what is called a captcha. It is actually a picture of
text, but not text itself. No screen reader will read it. You will
need sighted assistance. If you use Firefox, there is a plugin called
Webvism which, among other things, is supposed to read captchas.

Hi list. I recently got a new computer with vista pre-installed, and am
having trouble trying to re-register some of my programs. I don't
recall having this problem with XP and jfw9 , but in some registrations,
such as avast, the forms require you to enter a 3 code set of letters
which are graphically displayed. My jfw10 cannot read these, despite my
attempting to fiddle with the settings. Is there something I am doing
wrong? Appreciate any suggestions and thanks in advance.
