If you want to permanently change a setting, it should be changed in Configuration Manager. I know FS is not always consistent about this difference and I have no idea why it works on one PC and not another. To permanently change the echo setting do the following while in Outlook Express:

1. Press the JAWS + 6 (in the number row) to open Configuration Manager.

2. Press Alt + s to open the Set options menu.

3. Press the down arrow or the u key for User options.

4. Press Tab several times until you hear "typing echo". Press up or down arrows until you hear "characters and words" radio button.

5. Press Tab until you get to the Ok button and press the space bar.

6. Press Control + s to save the new settings and then Alt + F4 to close Configuration Manager.

I forgot to add that verbosity settings will be saved for all other applications I run and change. Also this not saving the settings only happens on my pc, on my notebook it works fine once set.

hi list,
when I go to verbosity settings for OE and want to set the echo setting to say characters as well as words and then change it accordingly, the setting will work for while jaws is in the same session. however, everytime I get on OE again it has changed back to just letters.
I tried to do a repair of jaws but did not help the issue.
I am using xp and jaws 7.10
regards
chrissy
