When you are within the Flash movie portion of the webpage does JAWS
announce any buttons? Normally, JAWS will know that there graphic controls
on the page but Flash does not provide any information through MSAA about
their function. The buttons are announced in sequential numbers like "0", "1",
"3"and so on. If you are daring, just press the Spacebar or the Enter key
on the buttons and see what happens. (I know I skipped a number. That's what typically happens. There are probably other controls that are not visible.)

There is not much you can do as an end user to make the Flash Player more accessible. The latest version of Flash Professional CS4 makes the accessibility we all want and you are describing as the default in the Flash Player that the developer builds for his site. The developer still needs to add two extra lines to enable the accessibility. YouTube must have been working with Adobe, because the same day that Adobe announced the release of Flash CS4, YouTube had the improved Flash Player on their website. I love their new Flash Player! I use it as an example all the time.

The only way I know to make sites like this more accessible is to send an email to the site developer or webmaster to explain your problems with accessibility and what you would like to see different. Let them know that the latest Adobe software should make this easy. Adobe is making progress with Flash accessibility. But sometimes I doubt their devotion to this cause. Last Monday they sponsored a Webinar on Flash Accessibility and compliance with Web Content Accessibility Group (WCAG). This was great and I provided the link below. Unfortunately, they do not practice what they preach. The Webinar is available in a Flash Player with no accessible playback controls! I am sending them an email next.
