On all of my systems, with all versions of Jaws,
while in the Jaws application window, a say-line command will read the

Just press Insert-Control-V while focused on the JAWS window to hear the
JAWS version number and build. Alternatively, go to the JAWS Help menu and
select the About JAWS for Windows dialog, which also contains this
information.
