We now have another nice choice for this. Jamal Mazrui has developed version 3.3 of pdf2txt, available completely free, to download, from:
http://EmpowermentZone.com/p2tsetup.exe and it can also scan image pdf's using Google's Tesseract technology. There is more info about it at the site I have given. Once downloaded, you then install it, and can read the documentation included. the program is about 24 mB in total.
