Hello Frank,

One thing to check is if screen echo is set to speak only highlighted information. If it is set to all then JAWS will lose focus as changes elsewhere are painted to the screen. use JAWS key (number pad insert key for desktop configuration or caps lock key for laptop configuration) with the letter "S" until screen echo is at highlighted.

Video card drivers or even display settings can also affect if JAWS can maintain focus. You might want to check your resolution and color settings in the display applet of the control panel. Updating a video driver will sometimes also help.

Take care.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws reading out the start menu

Hi!

I am new to this list. My name is Frank and I am living in Barcelona/Spain. I am German. I am hoping to reading interesting messages here :-)

Now on to my problem:

I have a Win XP SP 3 with Jaws 9.0 running here. When I open the start menu I can navigate in it without any problem. Jaws will read every entry I visit. But when I select an item to open e.g. Outlook Express, Jaws will start reading all the top level items of the start menu. This is very annoying.

Does anyone have an idea what could be causing the problem?

Could it have something to do with the video driver?

Regards
  Frank
