Hi, Would the below article have any bareing on the problem?. Eloquence synthesizer may exhibit slight pop or crackle in Windows Vista.
Problem: The Eloquence speech synthesizer in JAWS 9.0 has been modified to increase responsiveness in Windows Vista. Some users have reported popping and crackling when navigating or typing quickly. Reports are limited to Windows Vista only, linked to certain audio cards or chipsets being shipped and used in Windows Vista machines. If your system is affected and you prefer to return to how Eloquence sounded in JAWS 8.0, simple steps are provided below. As sound drivers evolve and as we continue to change Eloquence drivers, the situation will improve both on future and existing sound cards. Solution: Because of the gains in responsiveness in Windows Vista and the limited nature of the problem, you might consider not making any changes. If preferred, you can replace the latest Eloq.jls file with a prior one from JAWS 8.0. Download the older Eloq.jls file from Freedom Scientific: ftp://ftp.freedomscientific.com/users/hj/private/WebFiles/KnowledgeBase/eloq .jls Save the downloaded file to "C:\Program Files\Freedom Scientific\JAWS\9.0\Drivers\Speech\eloq". When asked if you wish to overwrite the existing file, choose Yes. Exit and re-launch JAWS. NOTES: This older Eloq.jls file is from JAWS 8.0, and there is no benefit to it's use or installation in Windows XP. Once you replace the latest driver with this downloaded older driver in your JAWS 9 eloq folder, you will no longer be able to successfully update your JAWS 9.0 version via the Check for Updates feature. Instead, to successfully install future JAWS 9.0 updates, you must download the full build for any update and install such updates over your existing installation.
