Hello Larry,

Your default program to open those files has perhaps been changed and
both mediaplayer and winamp has a setting to be used as default, which
you can first try.

Or, if the specific version of the program you want to use, have been
used to open the same type of files on that same computer before, the
following may perhaps help, but if not used on that pc before, there are
more complicated instructions, which I can't presently recall exactly,
but first try:

Having selected the sound file you want to open from within
windows explorer, use the applications key or shift f10 and arrow to the
"open with," option where you enter.

Usually the first three most likely programs to open that type of file
are listed there and if so, just enter on that.

But if neither winamp or windows mediaplayer are there, enter on the
"choose with" option and via tabbing to browse your pc for the relevant
program, choose it from the list and select it.

If that doesn't work, one has to type in the exact full path of the
program you want to open the file with via, I think, the windows
control panel in the file association edit box, for which I cannot
recall the precise location offhand.

 Regards

Riana

Subject: [JAWS-Users] unable to open sound files.

Hi Folks,

Recently when I attempt to play MP3, WAV or WMV files on my
computer I receive an unknown file types message and I am
prompted to locate the file that created my specific sound
file. I have both Winamp 5.35 and Windows Media Player 11
installed.
I am using Windows XP-Pro and Jaws 9.latest.

Any ideas what might be causing this? and how to fix it?

TNX

Larry
