If you check either Normal or Print layout, the Web layout view shouldn't display. As far as I can tell, it is not a default setting for anything. Web layout view is meant to allow you to view how a document would look like in a web browser. By default, when you start Word, the Normal option will be checked. However, when reading large documents, the Print layout option is often checked. Visually, people are saying, that is the best option. So I am not sure if you want Print layout or Normal to be your default setting, but if Print layout is fine that is easy--just check it. I am not sure how to make Normal the default view option in Word.
