But this attempt to save to text will not normally work on empty documents. Jaws is announcing empty document and that means exactly that. There is no text in the document so attempting to save to text will not work. The announcement empty document normally means that the document has been saved as a graphic picture scan. The only way to get the text readable will be to run some OCR. There are a number of ways of doing this. If you have Kurzweil you can use this to open the pdf directly and the OCR will be done automatically. Omnipage and other scanning programs will also do the trick. Personally I normally print to the virtual Microsoft document Image writer, run OCR from there, and then use the export to Word utility in this application. I do this as in my experience this has by far the best OCR accuracy. There are other free utilities called things like pdf to OCR which can be downloaded from the Jaws User Page .
