Hi David,

I am not at a computer right now with Word 2003, but I think the following steps will work for that version. When I am at work tomorrow I will go through the steps on a system with Word 2003 to make sure, and if there are any differences to the following steps I will let you know. The following information is what I sent another member of the list earlier today. She is using XP and Word 2003. I included steps for putting the .DIC files into the appropriate folder in the earlier post to the list concerning using the files in Vista and Word 2007. If you want me to put together another post with instructions for XP and Vista, and for Word 2007 and 2003 then let me know and I will work on it.

The following instructions apply when using Windows XP and Word 2003:

1. Select the two files that end with .DIC and copy them to the clipboard.
2. Open "my computer" or "Windows Explorer."
3. Open your local hard drive.
4. Open your "documents and settings" folder.
5. Open your user folder.
6. Open "applications data." If it is not showing in the list then you will need to go into folder options of the tools menu, move focus to the view tab, find the list of items and find the choice to show hidden files. If the show hidden files is not checked then use spacebar to check it. Tab to the apply button and press spacebar on it. Use the OK or close button out of the dialogs. 7. After opening the applications data folder open the Microsoft folder and then the "proof" folder. 8. In the "proof folder" you will already have the "custom.dic" file. Paste the files from the clipboard in this folder.
9. Close the window by using alt+f4.
10. Open Microsoft Word 2003.
11. Press Alt+T followed by the letter 'o."
12. Use CTRL+tab until the spelling tab is in focus.
13. Tab to the "custom dictionaries" button and press spacebar.
14. Use tab or shift+tab to find the list of dictionaries. Along with the custom.dic you should now have the other two dictionaries listed. 15. Use arrow keys to move on to each dictionary choice. the custom.dic will already be checked. Use spacebar to check the other two that you added.
16. Tab to OK (or apply if there is an apply button) and press spacebar.
17. Use OK or close buttons until out of the dialogs.

Now if you type such words as "jejunitis" or "hepatosplenomegaly", Word will recognize them as being correctly spelled.

Take care.
